Onn Abu Bakar is contesting the Senggarang state seat as a Pakatan Harapan candidate in the 16th Johor State Election (PRN Johor Ke-16), with polling set for July 11, 2026.
Onn Abu Bakar stands as the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidate within the Pakatan Harapan coalition, which is chaired by Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The coalition brings together PKR, DAP and Amanah in a unified slate fielded across all 56 Johor state constituencies.
As one of 56 seats up for grabs, Senggarang represents another front in Pakatan Harapan's effort to win a governing majority in Johor under the leadership of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
As a PKR candidate, Onn Abu Bakar runs on Pakatan Harapan's reform-driven, Malaysia Madani platform of good governance, economic opportunity and clean administration. PKR is contesting 20 of the coalition's 56 Johor seats.
Onn Abu Bakar is the sitting Member of Parliament for Batu Pahat and a veteran PKR leader in Johor. His candidacy in Senggarang places a heavyweight federal lawmaker into a key state contest. Pakatan Harapan's selection process for the Johor election was rigorous, with the coalition evaluating more than 1,000 potential candidates before finalising its 56 names. The slate blends established leaders, professionals and fresh faces, reflecting the coalition's bid to present a credible, governing-ready team to Johor voters.
As the July 11 polling day approaches, Onn Abu Bakar joins Pakatan Harapan's statewide push to win Johor. Early voting takes place on July 7, with nominations confirmed on June 27.
